Pre production art1/23/2024 I find that most of the time there are instruments that will flatter one artist and not so much another and it’s key to understand this as you do not want to waste any time or energy working towards the wrong sound. As a producer this at times can lie with you as you could be tasked with coming up with creative ways to help to create a new sound or if the artist is moving into a different genre or style. I always find that each artist ‘wants to be different’ or perhaps try something outside of the there comfort zone in order to find a ‘unique quality’. On occasion you might find that find an artist may lean on you to provide energy, guidance and assurance. Although, music tech is second nature to you there will be instances where people that you work with will not understand technical terminology so rember to speak plainly. Often, I have found that just speaking plainly will give you the best chance of getting through to your artist as it’s concise and clear to all. Often, this will provide you will an insight into what they might be able to achieve given the right musical ingredients and time spent working on their material. To be a good producer you need to learn and understand the person in front of you.
